Transfer from Kilimanjaro Airport to Karatu Town
Upon arrival, you will be picked by a driver and he shall drive you to your hotel booked at Karatu. At Karatu you shall spend your night. Orientation for the 5 days safari shall be done at the hotel by the guides.
Drive to Ngorongoro Crater with Overnight sleep at Karatu
Ngorongoro Crater is the flagship tourism feature for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the crater sinking to a depth of 610 metres, with a base area covering 260 square kilometers. Ngorongoro conservation area has two other volcanic craters: Olmoti and Empakai. Olmoti is famous for its stunning waterfalls, and Empakai holds a deep lake and lush, green walls. The Ngorongoro Crater is the best place in Tanzania to see ’The Big Five’. A healthy population of black rhinos and some of the largest tusker elephants left in Africa today. The crater is also home to good populations of lion, leopard and hyena along with healthy herds of wildebeest, buffalo and zebra. Other wildlife here includes Serval cat, cheetah, jackal, Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelle, flamingo and bat-eared foxes, as well as approximately 400 species of bird.Activities in Ngorongoro Crater are limited to game driving however the wider Ngorongoro Conservation Area offers places for walking, trekking, excursions to Olduvai Gorge and visiting the Masai and other tribes.
Departure for Saadani National Park
Saadani is located on the north Coast, roughly a 100Km northwest of Dar es Salaam. Your experience here is a safari on beach in the bush. Saadani is the only wildlife sanctuary in East Africa to boast for an Indian Ocean beachfront. The swaying palm trees with a cooling oceanic breeze, scenes of White sand and blue water sparkle will make your Saadani visit refreshing and remarkable.
Animals to see here include giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, common waterbucks, reedbucks, hartebeests, wildebeests, red duikers, greater kudus, elands, sable antelopes, yellow baboons and velvet monkeys. It is a place where your sunbathing moments might get interrupted by an elephant passing by or a lion coming to quench its thirst from a nearby waterhole! Other inhabitants that you will encounter in the park include leopards, spotted hyenas and black-backed jackals.
The Wami River, which passes through Saadani National Park and empties into the Indian Ocean, hosts a large population of hippos, crocodiles, flamingos and many large bird species such as the kingfisher. The Saadani beaches form one of the last major green turtle breeding sites on mainland Tanzania.
Mikumi National Park
Mikumi is Tanzania’s fourth-largest national park. The best offer for enjoying your safari at Mikumi is a full-day Game Drive. At 06:30 AM you get up for a sunrise game drive and breakfast at around 08:30 AM. You’ll then continue the drive until lunch time, which you will have in the park. After lunch, you will finish the day with a drive in another part of the park until around 16:30 hours. In Mikumi, you should expect to see animals such as lions, buffalo, giraffes, wildebeest, zebras, impalas, warthogs, elephants, hippos and more than 300 bird species.
Mikumi also offers a walking safari, however this requires setting atleast a full day for the adventure. Walking safari provides you a Mikumi wildlife on foot experience.
Selous Game Reserve
The Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest faunal reserves of the world, located in the south of Tanzania. The reserve covers a total area of 54,600 km2. Interesting places in the park include the Rufiji River, which flows into the Indian Ocean opposite Mafia Island and the Stiegler Gorge, a canyon of 100 metres depth and 100 metres width. Walking safaris are permitted in the Selous. Boat trips on the Rufiji are a popular activity.Some of the typical animals of the savanna including African bush elephants, black rhinos, hippos, Masai lions, East African wild dogs, cheetahs, Cape buffaloes, Masai giraffes and crocodiles are found in this park in larger numbers than in any other African game reserve or national park.
Udzungwa National Park
A day trip at Udzungwa National Park will provide you natural habitats which include tropical rainforest, mountain forest, miombo woodland, grassland and steppe. Through Sanje route you will visit the 4-stage waterfalls. At Udzungwa expect to see primates. There are 11 primate species with Iringa red colobus and Sanje crested mangabey found only in this national park. There are different endemic plant species, birds, reptiles and amphibians, butterflies for you to see.
Udzungwa has a closed-canopy forest that spans altitudes of 250 metres (820 feet) to above 2,000 metres (6,560 ft) without interruption, making it a magnet for hikers.
